Share Your Love of Baking With Those You Love Most
Spring is here and it is the the perfect time to share the joys of baking with your little ones! With get-togethers and garden parties galore, this season always presents plenty of opportunities to bake something extra special. And while you may not need extra little helpers when you cook, when you include your children or grandchildren in the cooking process they get to experience the magic of adding a few ingredients together to create something that is absolutly delicious.
Think about your own favorite childhood kitchen memories and recreate some of those experiences with your own children. Even something as simple as helping to measure out ingredients can give a child ownership in the finished creation. Here are a few recipes that are easy to prepare, but also have big "wow-factor" for you and your kids!

Remember your first experience in the kitchen baking with your grandma or mom? Or maybe it was with your dad or brother? Half the fun was always in the mess we made mixing the flour and other ingredients, licking the bowl and waiting for the goodies to come out of the oven. There was a sense of pride and accomplishment, along with the pure enjoyment of tasting something we made.
At War Eagle Mill, we want to keep that tradition alive and thriving in our community, one family at a time. These pages are devoted to partnering with your young person – or launching them on their own – to feel comfortable and happy in the kitchen. We want to foster the “natural” way and start healthy eating habits early in life. And, we want to encourage us “seasoned” folks to model healthy choices in the process.
It’s all about having fun. That is what these pages are for. We welcome your suggestions on what you and your young friends would find helpful. Just send an email to Millie with “Kids” in the subject line. Now, let’s get cookin’
Hey Kids!
Whether your 2 or 102, learning to bake can be waaaayyyyy fun. We get messy, use our imagination, learn new skills-- and best of all, eat! How much better can it get? Check out where your food comes from…at War Eagle Mill, our grains are grown, ground and delivered the natural way.
Here are some basics before we begin.
- Always, always, always wash your hands first.
- Make sure the area where you mix your ingredients is clean.
- Read the recipe first to make sure you have everything you need ready to go.
- Ask for help to run the microwave, oven stove top, blender, or any other appliance just to be safe
- Use oven mitts or pot holders when handling anything hot.
- Always be careful using knives. Please ask an adult to be with you, hang around and show you how.
- Clean up along the way so you won’t have a huge clean up job when you’re done. Cleaning up is a baker’s responsibility.
- Taste, taste, taste and share what you make. When you’re ready, you can experiment with your own additional ingredients.
