April Showers bring May Flours! We had record setting rainfall last month so the beautiful War Eagle River is rolling and the wheel is turning and grinding organic flours faster than ever. May is also a time to honor and celebrate our mothers. Your mom was probably the first person to steer you on your path to healthy eating. Now that we are adults we know she was right when she told us to “eat your veggies!” We also know now that in addition to fruits & veggies we need to incorporate whole grains into our diet.

*Strawberry Bread

A moist quick bread made with 100% whole grain flour & the seasons spring bounty – fresh strawberries!

Ingredients

1 ¾ cp War Eagle Mill White Wholegrain Wheat Flour

1 tsp baking soda

½ tsp salt

1 tsp cinnamon

2 eggs, beaten

½ cp oil

¾ cp honey

½ cp chopped pecans

1 ½ cp strawberries, sliced

Directions

Stir together dry ingredients large bowl. Cream together eggs, oil & honey in medium bowl and stir into dry ingredients. Fold in strawberries. Spoon batter into a greased 9 x 5 loaf pan. Bake in preheated 350° oven for 60 – 65 minutes. Cool in pan for 10 minutes; turn out on rack.

Mill opens at 7 a.m. to start serving an old-fashioned country breakfast. Come and see the best of local and area artists and craftsmen. We'll have pottery, baskets, quilts, broken china jewelry, dolls and much more!

May 10 th & 11 th – Mother's Day Celebration ! Look for sales on all floors, plus a special menu in the Bean Palace Restaurant with Meatloaf, Scalloped Potatoes, Green Beans, our famous Hot Rolls and Cheesecake for dessert.
