  • In a bowl whisk together the flour, salt, and baking powder.
  • Add in the melted butter and water and mix until thoroughly combined and dough is smooth.
  • More water can be added if dough is too dry. More flour can be added if dough is too wet.
  • Cover dough and let rest for 30 minutes.
  • Turn dough out onto lightly floured surface and roll out to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into 12 rectangle.
  • Heat oil in deep pan. There should be enough oil to cover the sopapillas as they fry. Oil is hot enough when it sizzles when a small portion of flour is sprinkled in.
  • Fry each sopapilla for approximately 1 minute in oil. Sopapillas are done when the air expands inside them creating a hollow center and they are golden brown on each side.
  • Place on paper towel to soak up oil.
  • Sprinkle with powdered sugar or drizzle honey or combine both toppings. Enjoy!
