The cooler Autumn weather gets everyone cravin’ heart-warming soup with a side of bread for dipping, of course! With just a hint of basil, Mom’s trusty soup recipe may have met its match!
- 8 cups canned tomatoes with juice
- 1 stick butter
- 1 cup finely diced onions
- 4 Tbsp War Eagle Mill Organic All Purpose Flour
- 5 cups milk
- 1 cup half & half
- 6 Tbsp sugar
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp pepper
- 2 tsp garlic salt
- 2 tsp onion powder
- 1 Tbsp basil
Puree tomatoes into little chunks in food processor.
In a large sauce pan, melt better and sauté onions until soft. Stir in all purpose flour.
Cook on medium heat stirring constantly for 2 minutes.
Whisk in milk and half & half.
When smooth and creamy, add all seasonings.
Cook for 1 minute.
Add tomatoes, simmer for 20 minutes. Add additional seasoning to taste.
Enjoy with fresh made bread, hot rolls or cornbread.
